//recording skype calls with audacity // //by phizone // //infonomicon.org 1. Start Skype. 2. Tools->Options->Sound Devices 3. Uncheck "Enable automating sound device settings adjustment" If this box is checked, when skype is started it will automagically set the input device to "mic" and will mute the "mic" in the output mixer. This is bad(especially if you're using an outboard mixer)... 4. Start->All Programs->Accessories->Entertainment->Volume Control to start the mixer app... 5. In Playback mode unmute the mic or line input (depending on which you are using for input). 6. Options->Properties 7. Select Adjust Volume for Recording and make sure that "What U Hear" is checked. 8. Make sure the "What U Hear" channel is selected for recording. 9. Start Audacity and Choose "What U Hear" as the input device on the mixer toolbar. With these settings you should be able to record both sides of a skype call as well as mix in audio from other sources like WMP. The volume of the mic or line input and the wav playback via WMP or skype can be adjusted from the mixer. I'm using the Creative Labs mixer software that comes with the sblive, but I think as long as "What U Hear" or something similar is available on your windows mixer everything should still work...
